Environmental Performance Disclosure
In 2009, The Coalition Of Australian Governments (COAG) agreed to laws requiring the mandatory disclosure of energy, water and greenhouse performance information when selling or leasing a property.
When will this law come into effect?
Although no definite date has been decided, we expect that the law will come into effect early in 2012. Similar legislation for disclosing the performance of commercial properties came into effect in November 2010.
What must be disclosed when selling or leasing my property?
- Energy Efficiency
- Water Use
- Greenhouse Emissions
Has this mandatory disclosure policy already been used by other states?
Yes, this policy has been used in the ACT since 1999 and in Queensland since January 1, 2010.
Has the policy been a success?
Preliminary research into the success of the ACT's scheme has shown that, as reflected in the market value, people value homes with a higher energy efficiency rating.
